Vijay Sethupathi’s crime comedy marks the debut of Rukmini Vasanth and earns ₹1 crore on its opening day.
May 24, 2025 – Chennai – Vijay Sethupathi’s much-awaited heist comedy thriller Ace hit theatres on May 23 and has opened to a decent start at the box office. The Tamil film collected ₹1 crore across India on its first day, according to early reports.
Ace also features Rukmini Vasanth, making her Tamil debut alongside Yogi Babu, Divya Pillai, Babloo Prithveeraj, and more. Directed by Aarumugakumar (who previously collaborated with Sethupathi on Oru Nalla Naal Paathu Solren), the film is a quirky crime thriller with a comedic twist.
A Promising Start Despite Mixed Reviews
While the film received mixed reviews from critics, it’s expected to pick up momentum over the weekend as Sethupathi’s films traditionally do well at the box office. The movie follows the story of Bold Kannan, who relocates to Malaysia for a fresh start. However, a heist gone wrong drags him into a dangerous underworld, forcing him to navigate a tangled web of deceit and survival.
Production and Technical Team
Ace is produced by 7Cs Entertainment, which also backed Sethupathi’s previous film Laabam. Justin Prabhakaran composed the music, while Karan B Rawat handled the cinematography and Fenny Oliver was the editor.
