Actor Ashish Kapoor Granted Bail In Alleged Rape Case, Court Cites ‘Lapses’ In Police Probe

TV actor Ashish Kapoor has been granted bail by a Delhi court in an alleged rape case, but his release comes with specific conditions including a ₹1 lakh personal bond. The court’s order reportedly cited “lapses” in the initial police investigation.

September 12, 2025: Delhi’s Tis Hazari Court has granted bail to television actor Ashish Kapoor, who is known for his appearances in series like Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, in a high-profile alleged rape case. On Thursday, the court made its decision, and the actor was let go on a ₹1 lakh personal bail.

On September 3, Kapoor was detained in Pune after a 24-year-old woman said he sexually assaulted her during a house party in Delhi in August. There have been a lot of legal twists in the case. At first, the complainant said that Kapoor and four other people gang-raped her, but subsequently she changed her mind and said that just Kapoor did it.

The court, led by Additional Sessions Judge Bhupinder Singh, pointed out a number of “lapses” in the police probe in granting bail. The judgment said that even though the police had the accused in custody, they “didn’t make sincere efforts to recover the mobile phone” and didn’t do adequate searches. The court further observed that Kapoor, a permanent resident of Delhi with a clean background, was no longer required for custodial interrogation.

Kapoor’s lawyers said that the claims against him were untrue and that the person who made them was drunk at the party and had made similar claims before. They also presented CCTV footage that they said showed the woman going into the toilet with the actor on her own. The prosecution, on the other hand, didn’t want the bond because the accusations were so serious.

Kapoor’s bail conditions say that he must keep his phone on and have location services on at all times. He must also help with the investigation that is still going on. Since being let go, the actor has not yet made a public statement. The police are still following the money trail, while the lawyers are getting ready for the next round of the trial.
