After Ellen Degeneres, Rosie O’Donnell Moves to Ireland, Cites Trump as a Reason
March 12, 2025: Rosie O’Donnell has officially left the United States, revealing in a TikTok video on March 11 that she moved to Ireland with her 12-year-old daughter Dakota on January 15. The comedian, 62, said the move was a personal decision influenced by the current political climate in the U.S.
“It’s been pretty wonderful, I have to say. The people are so loving and so kind, so welcoming. And I’m very grateful,” O’Donnell shared in the video. She also mentioned that she is in the process of obtaining Irish citizenship since her grandparents were from Ireland.
O’Donnell expressed that she misses her other children and friends but believes the move was necessary for her and Dakota’s well-being. “I was never someone who thought I would move to another country, but that’s what I decided would be best for myself and my 12-year-old child,” she stated.
Referencing political developments in the U.S., she said, “It’s been heartbreaking to see what’s happening politically and hard for me personally as well. The personal is political, as we all know.”
O’Donnell described the people in Dublin as “friendly” and shared that she has already met a lot of people since moving. While she misses aspects of her life in America, she emphasized that she and her daughter needed to make tough decisions for their well-being.
Concluding her video with advice for her followers, she said, “Protect your sanity as much as you can, and try not to swim in the chaos if possible.”
