Aishwarya Rai Bachchan Gets Relief: Delhi HC Safeguards Her Personality Rights

The Delhi High Court has granted an interim injunction to Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, protecting her name, image, and likeness from unauthorized use, including through AI and deepfake technology. The court’s ruling sets a critical precedent, affirming that a celebrity’s persona is an attribute of their dignity and right to privacy.

September 11, 2025: The Delhi High Court made a historic decision to protect Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s personality rights by instructing everyone to stop using her name, photos, or likeness without her permission for a short time.

A lot of people are saying that the ruling is a significant triumph for celebrities’ rights in the digital age, especially when it comes to how AI and deepfake technologies are utilized in ways that aren’t acceptable.

The actress was right, and Justice Tejas Karia, who was in charge of the case, agreed. He said that collecting someone’s private information without their permission is against their right to privacy and could hurt their sense of self-worth. The court’s decision implies that many people, including businesses and individuals, can’t use her picture to make money unless she grants them permission. It also says that Google and other companies have to take down and erase the URLs that are breaking the law within 72 hours.

Aishwarya’s and Senior Advocate Sandeep Sethi’s lawyers talked about a multitude of things that people were being taken advantage of, like bogus websites, unlawful goods, and sharing AI-generated photographs that had been changed to show sexual content. Sethi said that the actress had nothing to do with the company “Aishwarya Nation Wealth,” but they lied and said she was its chairperson.

This choice is very important in the law because other well-known Bollywood stars have won lawsuits. The next day, Aishwarya’s husband, Abhishek Bachchan, did the same thing. He did this to preserve his rights to his personality from being used without his permission, even by AI-generated deepfakes. Amitabh Bachchan, Anil Kapoor, and Jackie Shroff were the first people to show this trend in the legislation. It shows how hard it is for renowned people to keep their lives private in a world that is changing quickly.
