Akshay Kumar on ‘Kesari Chapter 2’: “I Want to Show India’s Real History, Not the One Written by the British”

At the grand trailer launch of Kesari Chapter 2, Akshay Kumar reveals his inspiration behind the film, his desire to create more sequels, and the importance of reclaiming Indian history through cinema.

New Delhi, April 4:
Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar unveiled the trailer of his upcoming historical drama ‘Kesari Chapter 2’ on Thursday, joined by co-stars R Madhavan and Ananya Panday at a grand event in New Delhi. The actor passionately spoke about his vision for the film and his broader mission to spotlight India’s forgotten heroes and untold history through cinema.

🎥 “Our History Books Were Written by the British”

Speaking during the press conference, Akshay shared that Kesari Chapter 2 is not just a sequel to the 2019 blockbuster Kesari, but part of a larger mission to narrate the stories that history books ignored.

“Our history books are written from the perspective of the British. I want to bring out the valour and accomplishments of India that have gone unnoticed. That is what inspired me to make Kesari Chapter 2,” he said in Punjabi.

He expressed his admiration for Punjab’s spirit of courage and loyalty, revealing that he envisions more films in the Kesari series.

“Punjab is full of brave and loyal people. Their stories deserve to be told. I want to make Kesari 3, Kesari 4 — there are many chapters of Indian bravery waiting to be explored,” Akshay added.

🗯️ Controversy Over Language: “Being Called a Slave Is the Real Abuse”

A key moment in the Kesari Chapter 2 teaser went viral when Akshay’s character says “Fk you”**—a first for the actor on screen. Responding to the buzz, Akshay defended the line, placing it in historical context.

“Yes, I used that word. But the Britishers calling us ‘slaves’—isn’t that the real abuse? That was more offensive than anything I could say. Shooting them at that time would have still felt like a small reaction,” he stated.

⚖️ A Courtroom Battle Post-Jallianwala Bagh

Kesari Chapter 2 explores the aftermath of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, centering around a gripping courtroom showdown. Akshay plays Nair, an advocate taking on the British Empire, while R Madhavan portrays Neville McKinley, the lawyer defending the Crown.

The trailer features haunting visuals of the massacre and its far-reaching impact, setting the stage for a powerful story of justice, defiance, and national pride.

📅 Release Date:

Kesari Chapter 2 is set to hit theatres on April 18, 2025.
