Akshay Kumar Recalls Madonna Walking Out of Bollywood Event After Awkward ‘Virgin’ Song Serenade

On Two Much with Kajol and Twinkle, Akshay Kumar recounts the disastrous “Awesome Foursome” event where a performer sang an offensive song to Madonna, prompting her exit.

Appearing as the latest guest alongside Saif Ali Khan on Kajol and Twinkle Khanna’s Prime Video chat show, Two Much with Kajol and Twinkle, Bollywood star Akshay Kumar shared an astonishing, and slightly embarrassing, story about an event where international pop icon Madonna was the chief guest.

Akshay recalled that he, Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Juhi Chawla, and other stars were thrilled when Madonna agreed to attend their performance event, titled “Awesome Foursome.”

The ‘Virgin’ Serenade That Caused Madonna’s Exit

Akshay described how excited the Bollywood contingent was to have Madonna and her family in the audience, and how each actor gave their best performance. However, the excitement turned to mortification when one unnamed performer decided to improvise a song dedicated to the global star.

“Then came this performer, and he wrote this song in the afternoon after he learned that Madonna was coming,” Akshay recounted. The performer then addressed Madonna and began to sing a highly inappropriate song.

Akshay sang the bizarre lyrics, which were set to the tune of Shah Rukh and Kajol’s famous track Ye Kaali Kaali Akhein: “He looked at Madonna and said, this song’s for you, and he went on to sing, you look to me a virgin, you have a virgin smile.” The song was a crude play on Madonna’s 1984 hit, Like a Virgin.

Madonna, who was attending the show with her husband and child, reacted with polite restraint before making a quiet exit. “She was sitting there with her kid and her husband, but she was very nice. She waited till the song got over and then got up and walked off in the middle of the show,” Akshay recalled.

The actor claimed that Kajol “screamed” at the performer backstage, demanding to know why he would sing such a song. “That was the end of the show,” Akshay concluded, laughing, “and we didn’t get any Hollywood stars coming to watch our show again.”

Akshay and Saif’s Upcoming Projects

Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan are currently collaborating on Priyadarshan’s Haiwaan, which is an adaptation of the director’s 2016 Malayalam film Oppam, starring Mohanlal and Samuthirakani. Akshay has also worked with Priyadarshan on the unreleased horror-comedy Bhooth Bangla. Akshay’s recent film appearances include Jolly LLB 3, Housefull 5, Kesari Chapter 2, and Sky Force.
