Ali Fazal and Tillotama Shome to Star in Himalayan Horror Thriller ‘Beyond’

May 16, 2025: Acclaimed actors Ali Fazal and Tillotama Shome are set to headline Beyond, an atmospheric horror-thriller set in the eerie landscapes of the Himalayas. The film is written and directed by BAFTA Breakthrough honoree Sumit Purhoit and produced by TrainTripper Films (Mumbai) in collaboration with Munich-based fieber.film.

Beyond takes place in a ghost town nestled in the Himalayan mountains, delving into themes of myth, memory, and the haunting silence of abandoned places. Purhoit, who hails from a small Himalayan town himself, brings a deeply personal connection to the narrative. “Like many from the hills, I moved away for opportunity,” he shared. “That migration has left many mountain villages desolate, turning them into ghost towns. One such forgotten place is the setting for my film.”

Infused with local folklore and legends, Beyond unfolds as a mystery horror while exploring the emotional and physical desolation of spaces left behind.

Ali Fazal, known for his roles in Mirzapur and Victoria & Abdul, expressed enthusiasm for the project: “Rarely do actors get to immerse themselves in stories as expansive and spiritually raw as Beyond. It’s a journey that transforms you.”

Tillotama Shome, recognized for her performances in Monsoon Wedding and Delhi Crime, resonated with the film’s themes. “It speaks to both those who left their homes for something better and those who stayed behind. It’s a fable, tender and terrifying at once.”

Production for Beyond is scheduled to begin in the winter of 2025-26, with filming set in the Himalayas.

Producer Mario Stefan of fieber.film praised the project’s cultural depth: “South Asian storytelling carries a spiritual intensity. Fear here is woven through myth and cultural memory. As a European producer, I’m honored to be part of this evocative film.”

TrainTripper’s Chippy Babu added, “Beyond lingers with you. Its haunting visuals and emotional ambiguity tell a local story with universal resonance—exploring isolation and the ghosts of our past.”
