December 14, 2024: Allu Arjun, the popular Telugu film star, was released from Chanchalguda Central Jail on Saturday after being granted interim bail by the Telangana High Court on December 13. The actor had been arrested in connection with a tragic incident that occurred during the premiere of his film Pushpa 2: The Rule at Sandhya Theatre on December 4.
Following his release, Allu Arjun was seen arriving at his residence in Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad. He was granted bail after furnishing a personal bond of Rs 50,000. Speaking to the media, the actor expressed his gratitude to his fans and supporters, stating, “I thank everyone for the love and support. I want to thank all my fans. There is nothing to worry about. I am fine. I am a law-abiding citizen and will cooperate. I would like to once again express my condolences to the family. It was an unfortunate incident. We are sorry for what happened.”
The incident in question took place when Allu Arjun visited the Sandhya Theatre for a special screening of Pushpa 2: The Rule. A large crowd had gathered outside the theatre to catch a glimpse of the actor, and the situation turned chaotic when he waved at the crowd from the sunroof of his vehicle. According to police reports, the actor’s actions contributed to the tragic events that unfolded. The police claimed that the crowd surged as Allu Arjun’s vehicle approached, and his security personnel attempted to clear the way by pushing people. In the chaos, a woman named Revathi lost her life, and her son was injured.
Authorities allege that despite being informed of the large crowd and potential dangers, the actor’s team did not take appropriate measures to defuse the situation. Police further stated that Allu Arjun stayed in the theatre for over two hours, ignoring warnings about the gathering crowd. The police suggested that his actions, rather than any lack of police presence, directly led to the tragic outcome.
Initially, Allu Arjun was sent to 14 days of judicial custody, but his legal team challenged the decision in the Telangana High Court, which subsequently granted him interim bail. However, the actor had to spend one night in jail before being released on the morning of December 16.
Allu Arjun’s lawyer, Ashok Reddy, expressed dissatisfaction with the delay in the actor’s release despite the High Court’s order. He described it as “illegal detention” and indicated that they would take legal action over the matter.
The incident has attracted considerable attention from political figures and the film industry. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Bharat Rashtra Samithi working president KTR, and others condemned the arrest, while celebrities like Rashmika Mandanna and Varun Dhawan expressed their support for the actor.
Earlier, during a Pushpa 2 success meet, Allu Arjun had expressed his shock and disbelief over the incident, saying, “The incident that took place in the Sandhya theatre is very unfortunate… I’m shocked. It took me hours to process it and respond to the incident. I couldn’t process it psychologically. It took me around 10 hours. We all blanked out when we heard the news.”
Despite the controversy, the actor has continued to receive immense support from his fans and colleagues, and he reiterated his stance of cooperation with the authorities. The tragic incident and subsequent legal battles, however, have certainly put a spotlight on the actor’s personal life and the responsibility of celebrities in managing such public gatherings.
