Allu Arjun's Jail Ordeal: Why the 'Pushpa 2' Star Spent the Night in Custody Despite Bail
December 14, 2024: Allu Arjun’s recent arrest and bail in the Sandhya Theatre stampede case led to an unexpected twist, as the popular actor had to spend an extra night in jail despite being granted bail by the Telangana High Court.
The Pushpa 2: The Rule star was arrested on Friday in connection with a tragic stampede that occurred during the premiere of his blockbuster film, which resulted in the death of a woman. Initially sent to 14-day judicial custody by a local court in Hyderabad, Allu Arjun was granted interim bail by the Telangana High Court shortly thereafter.

However, despite the court’s decision, the actor did not walk free immediately. Fans gathered outside the jail in anticipation of his release, only to be disappointed when the actor remained behind bars until the following morning.
The delay in Allu Arjun’s release was attributed to an administrative error. According to jail sources, the authorities had not received the official copy of the bail order until late on Friday night. Due to an error in the interim bail order, a fresh one had to be issued, and by the time it arrived, it was too late for a release that evening. The prison authorities noted that the document needed to be scrutinized, making an immediate release impossible.
The Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Task Force, confirmed the delay, stating, “He will be released tomorrow morning.”
The situation prompted criticism from Allu Arjun’s lawyer, Ashok Reddy, who accused the jail authorities of not complying with the bail order. Reddy questioned why the actor had not been released immediately after the bail order was received, despite it being clear and specific. Speaking to PTI, Reddy described the detention as “illegal” and hinted at taking legal action for the unjustified delay.
The actor was finally released from jail on Saturday morning after the fresh bail order was properly scrutinized. In his first statement after his release, Allu Arjun expressed his respect for the law, saying, “I am a law-abiding citizen and will cooperate. I would like to once again express my condolences to the family. It was an unfortunate incident.”
He then returned to his home in Jubilee Hills, where he was reunited with his wife, Sneha Reddy, who was visibly emotional at the sight of him.
