Amitabh Bachchan Reflects on Intercultural Marriages in His Family In KBC: ‘Every Corner of the Country’
December 11, 2024: In a heartfelt episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati 16 (KBC), Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan opened up about the intercultural diversity within his family, sharing personal anecdotes to comfort a contestant dealing with family estrangement.
Contestant Ashutosh Singh, a software developer from Vadodara, Gujarat, revealed an emotional struggle, disclosing that his parents had cut ties with him after he married against their wishes. Speaking directly to his parents, who he believed watch KBC regularly, Ashutosh said, “I haven’t spoken to my parents for five years. Coming here was important so I could reach out to them, hoping they would listen.”
Moved by Ashutosh’s story, Amitabh responded with compassion, expressing hope that the episode would inspire reconciliation. “I truly hope your parents see this and that this becomes the beginning of a conversation to heal your relationship,” he said.
To provide solace, the veteran actor shared the story of his own family’s intercultural marriages, illustrating the beauty of embracing diversity. Recalling his marriage to Jaya Bachchan, he said, “I am from Uttar Pradesh but married Jaya, who hails from Bengal. My daughter Shweta married into a Punjabi family, and my son Abhishek married Aishwarya Rai, who comes from Mangalore.”
Amitabh also mentioned his brother, Ajitabh Bachchan, who married into a Sindhi family, emphasizing how his family represents a cultural mosaic. Recalling his late father Harivansh Rai Bachchan’s words, Amitabh said, “Babuji used to say, ‘Desh ke har kone kone se byaah kar ke laaye hai sabko’ (We’ve brought people from every corner of the country into our family).”
