January 26, 2025: Andie MacDowell, the veteran actress known for her roles in Footloose and Lord of the Apes, humorously discussed her experience with “reverse nepotism” in a recent interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
She joked that her daughter, Margaret Qualley, whose star has risen with notable roles in Maid and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, had made her cool in the industry. Andie proudly mentioned that while her daughter was accused of benefiting from nepotism, she now enjoys a unique position as Margaret’s mom and Jack Antonoff’s mother-in-law, getting fan mail as a result of her daughter’s success.

Margaret Qualley has earned significant recognition in Hollywood, including an Emmy nomination for her role in Maid and a notable appearance in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. She has also been seen in films like Drive-Away Dolls and Kinds of Kindness, and most recently, in The Substance, which has garnered multiple Academy Award nominations.

Andie MacDowell, who has been a staple in the industry for over two decades, shared some personal reflections during her time at the Cannes Film Festival. She admitted that she had not attended the 1989 Cannes Film Festival for the promotion of Sex, Lies and Videotape because she had just had a baby, revealing her fear of the pressures at the event. However, she expressed that if it had been a recent Cannes, she would have no hesitation in attending, showing a shift in her comfort level with the industry’s expectations.
