The actor opens up about reprising his Spider-Man role, praises the creative freedom of ‘Spider-Verse’ films, and hints at unconventional storytelling as key to his comeback.

Washington DC | April 22:
Actor Andrew Garfield, who won hearts with his emotional return in Spider-Man: No Way Home, is open to donning the Spider-Man suit once again — but only under some very specific conditions. Speaking at Middle East Film & Comic Con, Garfield said any return to the franchise would require a “very weird, unique, and offbeat” storyline, similar to the experimental tone of the animated Spider-Verse films.

“It would have to be very weird. I would like to do something very strange — something very unique and surprising, kind of like the creative freedom they have with the animated Spider-Verse movies,” Garfield said, as quoted by Variety.

🎬 A Web Left Untangled

Garfield’s run as the web-slinger ended abruptly after The Amazing Spider-Man 2 underperformed at the box office, leaving many fans disappointed. In a 2023 Esquire interview, the two-time Oscar nominee admitted he was “left dangling” after the franchise was shelved.

But his return in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, alongside Tobey Maguire and Tom Holland, reinvigorated global admiration for his version of the character. Despite leaked photos and persistent fan theories, Garfield managed to keep his cameo under wraps, delivering one of the most talked-about superhero surprises in recent years.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the film picks up thematically where No Way Home left off — with the world forgetting who Peter Parker is. The title references a 2008 Marvel Comics arc that dealt with similar themes of identity erasure and personal rebirth.

Written by returning screenwriters Erik Sommers and Chris McKenna, Brand New Day has already sparked speculation about potential cameos — and Garfield is high on that wishlist.
