Anil Kapoor’s Mother Nirmal Kapoor Laid to Rest in Mumbai; Family and Bollywood Celebrities Attend Final Rites
May 3, 2025 : Nirmal Kapoor, the mother of veteran Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor, was cremated on Saturday, May 3, in Mumbai. The funeral procession began from her residence, with the mortal remains carried in an ambulance adorned with garlands and flowers.
Nirmal Kapoor passed away on Friday, May 2, after a brief hospitalization at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai. She was the wife of the late renowned film producer Surinder Kapoor and the matriarch of the Kapoor family.
The final rites took place at the Vile Parle Crematorium on S.V. Road. Visuals from the scene showed Anil Kapoor’s nephew, actor Arjun Kapoor, helping clear the crowd to make way for the flower-decked ambulance. Sonam Kapoor, Anil Kapoor’s daughter and Nirmal’s granddaughter, was also seen leaving for the cremation site in a black car.
Earlier in the day, family members and close friends gathered at the Kapoor residence to pay their final respects. Among those present were Anil Kapoor, Boney Kapoor, Sanjay Kapoor, Sunita Kapoor, Maheep Kapoor, Arjun Kapoor, and Sonam Kapoor.
Prominent figures from the film fraternity also joined the family in mourning. Neila Devi, wife of the late Shammi Kapoor, and actor Anupam Kher were among those who attended the funeral.
Nirmal Kapoor is survived by her children—Boney, Anil, Sanjay, and Reena Kapoor Marwah—and her grandchildren, including Arjun Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor, Rhea Kapoor, Harsh Vardhan Kapoor, Janhvi Kapoor, Anshula Kapoor, Khushi Kapoor, and Mohit Marwah.
She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and a close-knit family deeply rooted in the Indian film industry.
