Anjelica Huston Reveals Cancer Battle and How She’s Now 'In the Clear'
April 10, 2025: Oscar-winning actress Anjelica Huston has opened up about her private battle with cancer, revealing that she was diagnosed with the disease in 2019 after filming John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum. In an exclusive interview with People, Huston shared how this life-altering experience shaped her perspective on life and made her value the smaller, everyday moments.
“I had a very serious moment in my life when I was diagnosed with cancer,” Huston told People during a phone interview. “It was a big shock, but I managed to survive it, and I’m proud of myself.”
Huston reflected on how the diagnosis forced her to reassess her life and approach to daily challenges. She explained that it made her more conscious of avoiding unnecessary stress and not taking life too seriously. “It made me conscious of what I shouldn’t do, of places I shouldn’t go. One of those places was taking life too seriously. So now when the opportunity arises, I laugh, and I try not to make a big deal out of things.”
Now cancer-free for four years, Huston credits her doctors for providing the right treatment and guiding her through this difficult journey. “I’m at the four-year mark, and that means so much to me,” she said, expressing her pride in overcoming the disease. “It’s a fantastic thing. I’m very proud of myself, and I’ve been very lucky. My doctors have been wonderful.”
After her diagnosis, Huston celebrated being cancer-free by enjoying simple moments of joy, like walking in her garden and savoring the fresh air. “I just walked in my garden and smelled the roses and thought how clever I was,” she shared with People.
Though she kept her cancer battle private for six years, Huston felt it was time to share her experience in order to inspire and uplift others who may be going through similar struggles. “Sometimes you feel like you don’t want to talk about it for the obvious reasons, but there’s a lot to be said for talking about it and getting it out there and celebrating the fact that one’s come through,” Huston explained.
Reflecting on the preciousness of life, Huston added, “Life is tenuous and wonderful. It also gives you the idea that the world is big, and you can somehow match up to it. That you’re ready for whatever happens.”
Huston, who is currently cancer-free, will soon be seen as Lady Tressilian in Agatha Christie’s Towards Zero, a new limited series on BritBox. The first episode of the three-part murder mystery premieres on April 16, with the subsequent episodes airing over the following two days.
Huston’s story is a powerful reminder of resilience and the importance of embracing life’s fleeting moments, no matter the challenges we face.
