
Anne Burrell Was ‘Happy and Joyful’ at Improv Show She Attended Just Hours Before Her Shocking Death
June 18, 2025 | Celebrity chef and TV personality Anne Burrell spent her final night filled with laughter and light, attending an improv show at The Second City New York in Brooklyn — just hours before her sudden and tragic death at age 55.
Sources told People that Burrell was “in great spirits” during the event on Monday night, describing her as “typical fun, outgoing Anne” who had “a blast” watching the show. “She was so great… and so happy,” one insider recalled.
On Tuesday morning, however, everything changed.
According to the New York Police Department, Anne was found “unconscious and unresponsive” at her Brooklyn residence around 7:50 a.m. A 911 caller reported she had gone into “cardiac arrest” and was “dead on arrival,” as confirmed by the New York City Fire Department.
Though the exact cause of death is yet to be revealed, her passing has left her fans, friends, and colleagues shocked and heartbroken, especially those who saw her just the night before, seemingly healthy and full of life.

Known for her infectious energy and signature spiky blonde hair, Anne Burrell was a staple of the Food Network, hosting hit shows like “Secrets of a Restaurant Chef” and “Worst Cooks in America.” She was also a respected culinary instructor and mentor.

She is survived by her husband, Stuart Claxton, whom she married in 2021, and her stepson, Javier.
Her family issued an emotional statement, saying:
“Her smile lit up every room she entered. Anne’s light radiated far beyond those she knew, touching millions across the world. Though she is no longer with us, her warmth, spirit, and boundless love remain eternal.”
