February 10, 2025: A recent episode of India’s Got Latent on YouTube has sparked widespread outrage due to a series of offensive and controversial comments made by participants, including YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia. The remarks, which were primarily focused on demeaning and objectifying women, have led to a formal complaint and legal scrutiny. The episode has been condemned for its derogatory tone, with many criticizing the participants for making such remarks in a “joking” context.
Veteran actor Annu Kapoor has joined the growing list of public figures who have voiced their concerns about the incident. In a sharp response, Kapoor emphasized that freedom of expression should come with responsibility, especially in the digital age where content can easily reach a wide audience. Kapoor said, “The Constitution gives everyone the right to freedom of expression. However, in my opinion, this right should only be granted to those who fulfill their duties towards the country and society.”
Kapoor expressed his concern over the growing misuse of freedom of expression in India, calling it one of the key reasons behind societal decay. He further argued that individuals who fail to consider their duties toward society should lose their rights to express themselves freely. He pointed out the potential dangers of such reckless speech, suggesting that unchecked comments could escalate to violence, leading to anarchy.
The controversial episode of India’s Got Latent included inappropriate jokes targeting women’s private parts, which have sparked anger, especially among women’s rights activists and political figures. A formal complaint has been filed with both the Mumbai Commissioner and the Maharashtra Women’s Commission, accusing the participants of using obscene language that humiliated and demeaned women. The complainant has also raised concerns about the negative influence the video could have on younger viewers, particularly minors, who may not have the proper context or safeguards when exposed to such content.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis addressed the incident, noting that while everyone has the right to freedom of speech, it should not come at the cost of violating the rights of others. He stated that action should be taken against those who breach societal rules. Rekha Sharma, former chairperson of the National Commission for Women (NCW), also condemned the remarks, calling them morally inappropriate and damaging to societal values.
Shiv Sena spokesperson Raju Wagamare issued a stern warning, making it clear that such offensive language would not be tolerated in Maharashtra. He emphasized the state’s cultural legacy, citing Shivaji Maharaj’s values of respect and dignity.
The controversy surrounding the episode has led to widespread calls for stricter regulation of online content, especially on platforms like YouTube, which offer global access to sensitive and inappropriate material. Public figures are demanding immediate action against those involved in the incident to ensure that such content is not repeated in the future.
