Anshula Kapoor Calls ‘The Traitors’ Traumatic: “Diagnosed with PTSD, My Anxiety Went Off the Charts”
Mumbai, June 30, 2025 –
Anshula Kapoor has spoken out about her harrowing experience on The Traitors, Karan Johar’s latest reality series on Prime Video. In a candid interview with The Quint, the entrepreneur and daughter of producer Boney Kapoor revealed that her time on the show left her emotionally scarred and diagnosed with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
“My anxiety levels went off the charts. I didn’t have PTSD before the show. Now I do,” Anshula revealed, confirming she had to return to intensive therapy after filming concluded.
Although Anshula initially signed on thinking the show would mirror the original international format, she said what unfolded was far more intense and unsettling than anticipated.

“It wasn’t the long filming hours,” she clarified, “but the psychological environment. The constant surveillance, blacked-out room numbers, and lack of basic communication tools created a claustrophobic and disorienting atmosphere.”
She added that wind chimes were placed outside contestants’ rooms to detect unauthorized movements. “If you opened your door at the wrong time, someone would immediately show up and tell you to get back inside,” she said, describing the environment as over-controlled and anxiety-inducing.
Hosted by Karan Johar, the show features 20 celebrity contestants isolated at Jaisalmer’s Suryagarh Palace, where some are secretly designated as “Traitors.” The rest must deduce who among them is betraying the group.
The current finalist lineup includes Uorfi Javed, Apoorva Mukhija, Purav Jha, Sudhanshu Pandey, Harsh Gujral, Jasmin Bhasin, and Nikita Luther. The grand finale will air July 3 at 8 PM on Prime Video.
Anshula’s revelation has sparked concern on social media about the mental health impact of reality TV, with several users urging platforms to implement better psychological support systems during and after filming.
