“You can’t make Border 2 without my tune,” says Malik, as the full song prepares for a grand launch in Jaisalmer on January 2.
December 31, 2025: As the countdown to the release of the year’s most anticipated war sequel begins, a controversy is brewing behind the scenes over musical royalties and recognition. On Wednesday, December 31, 2025, veteran composer Anu Malik made it clear that he expects full credit for the upcoming track Ghar Kab Aaoge from Sunny Deol’s Border 2.
The new song is a reimagined version of the 1997 cult classic Sandese Aate Hain. While the sequel’s version is recreated by composer Mithoon with additional lyrics by Manoj Muntashir, Malik argues that the soul of the song—his original melody—cannot be ignored.
The Stand: “Our Contribution is Up There”
A defiant Anu Malik stated that both he and lyricist Javed Akhtar must be credited for the redux.
- The Claim: “I’m sure they will give my name to it, as I’ve created the song… Both Anu Malik and Javed Akhtar are up there in their contribution, so they will have to put our name somewhere,” he said.
- The Indispensability: Malik emphasized that the Border franchise is incomplete without its signature anthem. “They can’t make Border 2 without Sandese Aate Hain,” he noted, adding that the “tune is going to be Anu Malik” regardless of who rearranges it.
A “Magical” Collaboration: Sonu Meets Arijit
Despite the credit dispute, Malik expressed immense excitement for the vocal powerhouses involved in the new version.
- The Quartet: The track features an unprecedented lineup: Sonu Nigam (the original voice), Arijit Singh, Diljit Dosanjh, and Vishal Mishra.
- High Praise: Malik called the combination “magical,” specifically praising Arijit as a “magical singer” and Sonu as “one of the best we have today.”
Grand Launch in Jaisalmer
The makers, T-Series and J.P. Films, are pulling out all the stops for the song’s debut.
- The Venue: The full version of Ghar Kab Aaoge will be launched on January 2, 2026, at a massive event in Longewala-Tanot, Jaisalmer—the historic site of the 1971 battle.
- The Film: Directed by Anurag Singh, the film features Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty. It is slated for a Republic Day weekend release on January 23, 2026.
The Original Legacy
Sandese Aate Hain remains one of India’s most popular patriotic songs, famously composed by Malik in just seven-and-a-half minutes at his home. The original 10-minute epic earned Malik and Javed Akhtar numerous awards and became an anthem for the Indian Armed Forces.
