October 9, 2025: Veteran music composer Anu Malik has responded to the severe allegations leveled against him by his nephew, composer-singer Amaal Mallik, by stating his choice to “choose silence, not bitterness.” The ongoing family feud has brought the internal dynamics of the Malik family into the spotlight, with Amaal making public claims of sabotage and abandonment.

Anu Malik’s Response:

Addressing his nephew’s claims, Anu Malik, 64, maintained a philosophical stance, asserting, “A lie told 1,000 times will never become the truth. One can’t waste energy reacting to everything.”

He further invoked a lesson from his father, composer Sardar Malik, saying, “My father… always told me, never allow poison to churn in your mind. If you do, you’ll never be a good composer. People may hurt you, but they can’t take away your talent, that’s yours. I sit at my piano, make a new tune, and that’s my answer to the world.”

Earlier this year, Anu had attempted to downplay the rift, publicly referring to Amaal’s father, Daboo Malik, as his “jigar ka tukda” (a piece of my heart) and describing Amaal and his brother, singer Armaan Malik, as “humari jaan” (our life).

Despite the controversy, the composer stated that his focus is “solely” on his work, which includes composing songs for an upcoming romance film. However, he admitted to feeling “under-appreciated” in the industry, saying, “I feel like I’ve been underused and underutilised. There’s still so much more I can give.”

Amaal Mallik’s Allegations:

The controversy escalated following multiple public statements from Amaal Mallik, including appearances on a reality show and interviews:

• Sabotage of Father’s Career: In an interview, Amaal accused Anu Malik of professional jealousy, claiming his uncle had “ruined” his father Daboo Malik’s career and mistreated his mother, Jyoti, while she was pregnant.
• Abandonment During Floods: On a reality show, Amaal alleged that during the 2005 Mumbai floods, his uncle’s family saw him, aged 7, “struggling to get home” in the chest-deep water and “locked their Mercedes, leaving me there.”
• #MeToo Stance: Amaal stated that he had chosen not to speak up in support of Anu Malik when the composer faced sexual harassment accusations during the #MeToo movement, explicitly saying he no longer considers his uncle a part of his family.
