Anupam Kher Unveils Jackie Shroff as Brigadier Joshi in Tanvi The Great, Calls Him ‘Brother from Another Mother’

May 8, 2025: Amid growing anticipation for Anupam Kher’s directorial debut Tanvi The Great, the veteran actor has amped up excitement by unveiling Jackie Shroff’s powerful look as Brigadier Joshi in the film. In a heartfelt Instagram post, Kher described Shroff as “my brother from another mother,” highlighting the deep personal bond they share beyond the screen.

Kher shared that not only have they worked on several films together, but they are also like family. “Not many know that his wife Ayesha Shroff has been tying Rakhi to me for more than 30 years,” Kher revealed. “Jackie has a golden heart. ‘Love’ can be his second name.”

He went on to recount a touching moment when Shroff visited him at home during the early stages of the film’s development. “I had recorded a few songs. I made him listen to them. He was quiet for a long time after listening, then hugged me and said, ‘Don’t make this film without me.’”

Describing Brigadier Joshi as a larger-than-life character — strong, decisive, and compassionate — Kher expressed his belief that Shroff’s performance will be remembered for years. “Thank you, Shroff, for your selfless friendship and brilliant acting. You are a pillar of my strength, both on and off screen. Jai Hind!” he added.

Earlier, Kher had introduced another significant character in the film — Raza Saab, a musical genius played by the acclaimed actor Boman Irani. Sharing Irani’s poster on Instagram, Kher praised his talent and character, saying, “Boman Irani is not only a phenomenal actor but also a wonderful human being. Having a friend like him on the sets is an asset for life.”

Kher revealed that Irani instantly agreed to be part of the film upon hearing just the concept. “His presence and performance in the film is towering,” he noted. “The depth you brought to the character makes Tanvi — GREAT!”

Tanvi The Great will have its world premiere at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival within the Marché du Film segment. Featuring music by Oscar-winner M.M. Keeravani, the film is produced by Anupam Kher Studios and NFDC in collaboration with Lower Middle Class Corporation. The film also marks the acting debut of Shubhangi Dutt in a lead role. The official release date will be announced soon.
