Anurag Kashyap Slams The Kerala Story 2
Filmmaker calls sequel ‘propaganda’ ahead of release
February 22, 2026: Anurag Kashyap has sparked fresh controversy with his sharp remarks on The Kerala Story 2, which is slated to release on February 27. Speaking to the media during his visit to Kochi for the Filmfare Awards South, Kashyap criticised the film’s trailer, calling it “propaganda” and dismissing it in strong words. He also alleged that the makers were more focused on profits than storytelling, accusing them of attempting to create division for commercial gain.
The backlash comes amid debate over a trailer sequence showing a protagonist being forcefully fed beef, a scene that has triggered polarised reactions online. The controversy has extended beyond the film fraternity, with Pinarayi Vijayan publicly criticising attempts to portray Kerala negatively. He emphasised the state’s secular fabric and urged people to reject what he termed false propaganda that undermines communal harmony.
Directed by Kamakhya Narayan Singh and produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, The Kerala Story 2 has received a U/A certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification. As its theatrical release approaches, the film is expected to draw attention not only for its box office prospects but also for the larger political and social conversations surrounding it.
