Apple Bids For Formula 1 Rights In US Following Success Of Brad Pitt Film
July 9, 2025: Tech giant Apple is reportedly in negotiations to acquire the U.S. broadcast rights for Formula 1, according to a report from the Financial Times. The move follows the growing popularity of the sport in the United States and the recent success of Brad Pitt’s “F1: The Movie”, co-produced by Apple.
The current broadcast deal in the U.S. is set to expire next year, and Apple’s potential bid could mark a significant shift in how American audiences consume Formula 1. The deal, if finalized, would make Apple a key player in live sports broadcasting, further expanding its Apple TV+ content ecosystem.
Julian Satterthwaite of Reuters reports that Apple’s interest is likely fueled by both the sport’s rising U.S. profile and its strong storytelling potential, as seen with “F1: The Movie” and the global success of Netflix’s “Drive to Survive” docuseries.
Apple has been steadily increasing its presence in the live sports arena, with exclusive rights to Major League Soccer (MLS) and selective coverage of Major League Baseball (MLB). Acquiring Formula 1 would mark its biggest sports deal to date and could help it compete directly with platforms like ESPN, Amazon Prime Video, and NBC.
More details on the value of the potential deal or its structure have yet to emerge.
