AR Rahman Divorce Update! Lawyer Addresses Link-up to Bassist Mohini Dey

November 21, 2024: Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman and his wife, Saira Banu, have decided to separate after nearly 28 years of marriage. The announcement has sparked widespread interest, but Saira’s lawyer, Vandana Shah, has clarified key details about the separation. She confirmed that no discussions regarding financial settlements or compensation have taken place yet and dismissed any connection between Rahman’s separation and the recent divorce announcement by bassist Mohini Dey.

An Amicable Decision

The news of the couple’s separation was officially confirmed by Saira Banu’s lawyer, who described the decision as amicable and mature. Vandana Shah stated, “Both of them are extremely genuine individuals, and this decision was not taken lightly. It is a matter of mutual respect and understanding.” She added that emotional strain had been a factor, but the separation was handled with dignity.

Rahman, in a brief statement, referred to the decision as a “fragile” matter, asking for privacy for both families as they navigate this transition.

No Financial Talks Yet

Shah emphasized that the process is still in its early stages and that no discussions about financial settlements or compensation have occurred. “It has not come to this stage yet. It would be an amicable divorce,” she confirmed. She also refrained from disclosing specific reasons for the separation, citing confidentiality, while praising the couple’s grace and maturity during this time.

No Connection to Mohini Dey’s Divorce

Coincidentally, the news of Rahman and Saira’s separation came just hours before bassist Mohini Dey announced her divorce from composer Mark Hartsuch. Mohini explained that her divorce was mutual and stemmed from differing life goals.

Addressing rumors of a link between the two announcements, Shah firmly denied any connection, saying, “There is no link at all. Saira and Mr. Rahman made this decision independently of any other event.”

A Marriage of Nearly Three Decades

Rahman and Saira Banu were married in 1995 and share three children – daughters Khatija and Raheema, and son Ameen. Despite their separation, Vandana Shah emphasized the enduring respect and goodwill between the two. “Every long marriage goes through its ups and downs, and I am happy to see that if it has come to an end, it has done so in a dignified manner. Both Rahman and Saira will continue to support and wish each other well,” she stated.
