AR Rahman's Son Breaks Silence On Linking Parents' Divorce To Bassist Mohini Dey, Calls It 'Baseless'
November 23, 2024: The recent announcement of A. R. Rahman and his wife Saira Banu’s separation has stirred a significant amount of attention, especially with the timing of the revelation that bassist Mohini Dey had also ended her marriage with Mark Hartsuch. This prompted speculation among netizens, who wondered whether there was a connection between the two events. However, AR Rahman’s son, AR Ameen, quickly took to social media to shut down these rumors, calling them “baseless.”
Ameen expressed his frustration with the spread of false information, emphasizing his father’s integrity and legacy. He wrote on Instagram: “My father is a legend, not just for his incredible contributions, but for the values, respect, and love he has earned over the years. It’s disheartening to see false and baseless rumors being spread. Let us all remember the importance of truth and respect when speaking about someone’s life and legacy. Please refrain from engaging in or spreading such misinformation.” He also shared a story with the message: “No link between Rahman, Dey divorce.”
Earlier, Rahman’s daughter, Khatija, had also taken to social media, requesting privacy for the family during this difficult time.
The separation between Rahman and Saira was officially confirmed in a joint statement from their lawyer, which outlined that the decision was due to “significant emotional strain” in their relationship. The statement described the decision as painful but necessary, stating that the couple had struggled with tensions and difficulties that they could not overcome.
Rahman, too, shared a poignant message on his X (formerly Twitter) account, reflecting on the separation. He acknowledged the emotional pain of the situation, stating, “We had hoped to reach the grand thirty, but all things, it seems, carry an unseen end. Even the throne of God might tremble at the weight of broken hearts.” Rahman further expressed gratitude for the kindness and respect for their privacy as they navigate this challenging chapter in their lives.
The couple married in 1995 and has three children together: Khatija, Raheema, and Ameen. Despite the rumors swirling around their separation, the Rahman family has continued to urge respect for their personal lives and their ongoing privacy.
