At the Times Now Summit 2024 held in Delhi, celebrated composer AR Rahman unveiled “Team India,” the newest anthem from the upcoming sports biopic “Maidaan.”
“Maidaan” produced by Boney Kapoor, shines a spotlight on the inspiring story of Syed Abdul Rahim, the esteemed coach of the Indian national football team, portrayed by Ajay Devgn. Rahman described the track as a powerful anthem that embodies the spirit of sportsmanship and patriotism.
During his appearance, Rahman highlighted the track’s journey to completion, which uniquely required four iterations to perfect, a process intensified by the constraints of the COVID pandemic. He emphasized that “Maidaan” transcends the typical sports narrative, weaving in significant themes of humanity and romance. Priyamani stars alongside Devgn, playing Rahim’s wife, marking a significant aspect of the film’s emotional core.
The film, eagerly anticipated for its theatrical release on April 10, features a stellar cast including Devgn, Priyamani, Gajraj Rao, and Rudranil Ghosh, under the direction of Amit Ravindernath Sharma. Initially, Keerthi Suresh was cast in the role later filled by Priyamani due to a change in casting.
“Maidaan” not only celebrates a pivotal chapter in Indian sports history but also showcases Rahman’s musical genius, adding to the film’s appeal. The project faced setbacks, including the dismantling of its set during the COVID-19 lockdown and destruction caused by Cyclone Tauktae in May 2021, yet it has triumphantly reached the cusp of its release, promising audiences a cinematic experience rich in patriotism, emotion, and the beautiful game of football.
