The upcoming cinematic retelling of the Ramayana, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, is easily one of the most anticipated projects in Indian cinema history. As excitement builds for the two-part epic, legendary actor Arun Govil who became a household name playing Lord Rama in Ramanand Sagar’s iconic TV series has officially passed the torch.

Speaking on April 8, Govil, who portrays King Dashrath in the new film, expressed immense confidence in Ranbir Kapoor’s ability to lead the franchise.

Arun Govil praised Ranbir not just for his acting prowess but for his personal values, stating, “He is a very cultured kid, basically. He has a moral culture, I have seen it many times. I am very sure he will try to do his level best.”

This endorsement carries significant weight given Govil’s status as the definitive face of the character for decades. Interestingly, Ranbir himself has noted that his preparation began years ago when he first watched the original television series, which deeply influenced his spiritual and physical approach to the role.
