Aryan Khan To Direct Shah Rukh Khan In A Feature Film?

After his hit OTT debut, filmmaker Aryan Khan is preparing for his first theatrical release, with sources reporting that his third directorial—slated for 2027—will star his superstar father, Shah Rukh Khan, in the lead.

November 7, 2025: Filmmaker Aryan Khan, who recently emerged as one of the industry’s most promising young voices following the success of his Netflix series The Ba*ds of Bollywood, is reportedly charting a strategic career path that will culminate in directing his father, superstar Shah Rukh Khan.

According to industry reports, the much-anticipated father-son collaboration is planned for Aryan’s third directorial venture and is projected to begin production sometime in 2027.

Earning the Opportunity

Sources close to the project reveal that the 27-year-old filmmaker is determined to first prove his mettle as a successful theatrical director before taking on the challenge of guiding King Khan behind the camera.

Industry Source: “Aryan wants to deliver a theatrical success and prove himself as a filmmaker before taking on the challenge of directing his superstar father, Shah Rukh Khan. His idea is to earn that opportunity through merit and let his work speak for itself.”

The father-son duo has reportedly already “locked the core idea” for the 2027 film.

The Road Ahead: Theatrical Debut First

Before the high-profile collaboration, Aryan Khan is currently focusing on his next two projects:

  1. Second Project (First Feature Film): Aryan is intensely focused on completing the script for his second feature, which will mark his theatrical directorial debut. This film is expected to enter the casting stage soon and is slated to begin production in 2026. Reports indicate that Shah Rukh Khan will not be playing the lead role in this initial big-screen venture, as Aryan aims to establish his unique cinematic identity first.
  2. Third Project (SRK Collaboration): This will be the full-fledged feature film starring Shah Rukh Khan, planned for 2027.

The young filmmaker’s dedication to earning his stripes echoes Shah Rukh Khan’s trademark wit. When asked by a fan earlier if his son would direct him, King Khan famously responded, “If he can afford me!!! And my tantrums.”

Controversy Over Debut Series

While his debut show was a massive hit, it was not without controversy. Actor and producer Vivek Vaswani, a former close friend of Shah Rukh Khan, expressed disappointment over the series’ portrayal of the film industry, stating that the depiction of Bollywood as a “gutter” was a stark contrast to the affection and support he claims SRK received as a newcomer.

Meanwhile, Shah Rukh Khan is busy with his own schedule, preparing for his upcoming film King, an action drama helmed by Siddharth Anand, whose first look was unveiled recently on the superstar’s 60th birthday.
