The Indian music fraternity is in deep mourning following the passing of the “Limitless” Asha Bhosle, who breathed her last at the age of 92 on April 12, 2026.
As the news of her demise at Breach Candy Hospital spread, legendary composers and singers took to social media to express their grief, describing her not just as a singer, but as a cultural phenomenon whose voice defined the soul of Indian cinema for over seven decades.
Shreya Ghoshal shared a poignant tribute, calling the veteran singer a spirit that redefined music itself.
Ghoshal reminisced about growing up in awe of Bhosle’s effortless versatility, noting how she could transition from playful melodies to deep ghazals across numerous languages. “For so many of us, she wasn’t just an inspiration… she was a part of our musical soul,” Ghoshal wrote, concluding that her legacy as “Asha Tai” would echo through time.
Global icon AR Rahman and celebrated composer Shankar Mahadevan also shared heartfelt messages, emphasizing that while she has physically left, her “voice and aura” are eternal.
Mahadevan noted that she would live on forever in the hearts of music lovers, while Salim Merchant added that an era like hers doesn’t simply end, but “echoes forever.”
From Abhijeet Sawant to Prasoon Joshi, the sentiment remained unanimous: the world has lost a voice that gave soul to every note it touched.
