Australian Actor Julian McMahon Star of 'Charmed', 'Fantastic Four' Dies at 56
July-5, 2025: Julian McMahon, the celebrated Australian actor known for his iconic roles in Nip/Tuck, Charmed, and Fantastic Four, has died at the age of 56. His wife, Kelly Paniagua, confirmed that he passed away on Wednesday in Clearwater, Florida, following a private battle with cancer.
In a heartfelt statement, Paniagua said:
“Julian loved life. He loved his family. He loved his friends. He loved his work, and he loved his fans. His deepest wish was to bring joy into as many lives as possible.”
McMahon rose to prominence in the late 1990s with his role as Cole Turner in the supernatural hit Charmed, before landing what became his career-defining role as the charismatic and troubled plastic surgeon Dr. Christian Troy in FX’s Nip/Tuck. The show ran from 2003 to 2010 and earned McMahon a Golden Globe nomination, catapulting him into international stardom.
His co-star Dylan Walsh shared an emotional tribute:
“We rode this wave together and I loved him… Jules! I know you’d want me to say something to make you smile — all the inside jokes. All those years you had my back, and my god, we laughed. My heart is with you. Rest in peace.”
Beyond television, McMahon starred as Doctor Doom in the 2005 and 2007 Fantastic Four films, bringing Marvel’s infamous villain to life. He later appeared in three seasons of CBS’s FBI: Most Wanted, where he played team leader Jess LaCroix. Series creator Dick Wolf called McMahon’s passing “shocking news.”

In a poetic twist, McMahon—whose father, Sir William McMahon, served as Australia’s Prime Minister from 1971 to 1972—played a fictional Australian Prime Minister in one of his final roles on Netflix’s The Residence.
McMahon was married three times, including a high-profile marriage to Dannii Minogue, Australian singer and sister of Kylie Minogue.
Despite his star-studded resume, McMahon was widely praised for his humility, wit, and loyalty, as noted by colleagues and fans alike.
His death marks the loss of one of Australia’s most charismatic exports to Hollywood — an actor who balanced intensity with charm, and ambition with heart.
