Ayushmann Khurrana Gets Emotional as Thamma Crosses ₹50 Crore in Three Days
The actor shared a heartfelt note calling the film’s success a “beautiful divine light” for his family, referencing his late father and recent personal challenges.
Bollywood actor Ayushmann Khurrana is celebrating the massive success of his latest film, Thamma, which crossed the ₹50 crore mark at the box office in just three days. The achievement holds a deep personal significance for the actor, who recently shared an emotional note on Instagram about the film’s timing.
On Friday, Ayushmann posted a heartfelt compilation on Instagram that included moments from his family’s Diwali celebration, a cherished picture with his late father, a snap with his on-screen father Paresh Rawal, and a clip of jubilant fans mobbing him at a theatre screening.
In his caption, Ayushmann expressed how the film’s success came as a much-needed emotional relief for his family, which has faced health struggles and loss in recent years.
“This family has seen a lot in the last few years. The success of Thamma is like a beautiful divine light. It is a result of the collective prayers of the young and the old present here,” he wrote.
He also drew a profound connection between the film and his father, astrologer P. Khurana, who passed away in May 2023.
“आयुष्मान भव:… that’s what my father used to say whenever I touched his feet. When Paresh ji said आयुष्मान भव: in the film, it felt like my father, my guardian angel, had blessed me.”
Ayushmann concluded by expressing his gratitude to the audience and his late father, saying, “My family, my late father and the audience have blessed Thamma with love. Don’t be surprised if you come across an overwhelmed me in one of the theatres in the suburbs —I may drop in to say hi and thank you!”
The post was instantly flooded with support from industry colleagues. Rajkummar Rao commented, “Congratulations, brother. Very well deserved.” Vijay Varma sent “Lots of love to you and fam, brother,” and Rakul Preet Singh wished him, “May this be just the beginning of so much more… love to all of you.”
Fans were equally effusive, with one writing, “Like they say, some successes feel personal to us. This one feels exactly like that. Your wins = our wins. So, so happy and proud of you, AK! You deserve every bit of this and even more. Ayushmann Bhava!”
The success follows a difficult period for the Khurrana family, including the loss of Ayushmann’s father and his wife and filmmaker Tahira Kashyap revealing in April that her breast cancer had relapsed after seven years, though she is currently focused on regaining her health.
In Thamma, Ayushmann plays the role of a vampire alongside a stellar cast that includes Rashmika Mandanna, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Paresh Rawal, and Faisal Malik. The film, produced by Maddock Films, has received mostly positive reviews and is enjoying a strong box office run.
Before Thamma, Ayushmann starred in Dream Girl 2 (2023) alongside Ananya Panday, which was also a commercial success, earning $₹142.2 \text{ crore}$ worldwide.
His next project will be Mudassar Aziz’s Pati Patni Aur Woh Do, co-starring Sara Ali Khan, which is scheduled for release in March 2026.
