SS Rajamouli’s remastered 3-hour 43-minute single-film version arrives on OTT 55 days after its successful theatrical run.
December 24, 2025: Mahishmati fans have a major reason to celebrate this holiday season. Baahubali: The Epic, the meticulously re-edited and remastered combination of Baahubali: The Beginning (2015) and Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (2017), is set to begin streaming on Netflix this Thursday, December 25, 2025.
A Tighter, Remastered Narrative
Directed and re-envisioned by SS Rajamouli, this “Epic” cut transforms the original five-hour saga into a continuous cinematic journey.

- The Runtime: The film clocks in at 3 hours and 43 minutes (223 minutes). To achieve this, the makers trimmed over 100 minutes of footage, primarily romantic subplots and some musical sequences, to focus on the core political drama and war.
- New Additions: While some songs were removed, the edit includes remastered sound by MM Keeravaani and a few previously unreleased scenes that provide deeper context into the rivalry between Amarendra Baahubali and Bhallaladeva.
- The Synopsis: “Years after his father was betrayed, a warrior battles to reclaim the throne of Mahishmati in this remastered single version of the epic two-part series.”
Record-Breaking Re-Release
Before moving to digital, the film enjoyed a strong run in theaters starting October 31.
- Box Office: The film collected ₹51.72 crore worldwide, making it the highest-grossing re-released film in Indian history, beating the 2024-25 records set by Tumbbad and Sanam Teri Kasam.
- OTT Strategy: Interestingly, the film is releasing on Netflix nearly eight weeks after its theatrical debut, breaking the standard 3-week window common for many South Indian releases in 2025.
Looking Ahead: ‘The Eternal War’
The end credits of Baahubali: The Epic carry a significant surprise for the fandom: the official announcement of Baahubali: The Eternal War.
- The Project: An animated feature film directed by Ishan Shukla (Star Wars: Visions).
- The Plot: Set in the afterlife, it follows Amarendra Baahubali as he navigates a cosmic war between devas and asuras.
- Release Window: The animated epic is slated for a theatrical release in 2027, with teaser footage already drawing comparisons to Arcane and Spider-Verse for its high-end visual style.
What’s Next for SS Rajamouli?
While the Baahubali world continues to expand, Rajamouli is currently deep into the production of his next live-action spectacle, tentatively titled Varanasi (SSMB29). Starring Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra, and Prithviraj Sukumaran, the jungle adventure is scheduled for a Sankranthi 2027 release.
