Babil Khan, currently basking in praise for his role in ZEE5’s cyberthriller Logout, has opened up about the emotional toll of living in the shadow of his father, the late Irrfan Khan. In an intimate conversation with The Lallantop, the young actor shared how the loss of his father in 2020 changed him overnight—and how his way of processing grief came with both love and backlash.

“When Baba passed away, I wasn’t ready for the spotlight that followed,” Babil shared. “But what struck me was how people came out to bid him farewell—risking Covid just to say goodbye. That kind of love made me feel I owed something back. His loss wasn’t just ours, it belonged to everyone.”

Babil began sharing heartfelt memories of his father on social media, which struck a chord with many. But the love wasn’t unanimous—some accused him of using his father’s death to advance his career.

“It hurt when people said I was exploiting Baba’s passing,” he admitted. “If I had done that, I wouldn’t still be giving auditions today. I was sharing that love because so many gave it back to us.”

Babil, who debuted in Anvitaa Dutt’s Qala in 2022 on Netflix, emphasized that his journey is about connection, not promotion. “After Baba passed, my family and I shared a statement—‘Anyone who feels this loss is part of our family.’ That’s why I kept sharing. But of course, with light comes darkness. I had to face the other side of it too.”

Despite the criticism, Babil chooses vulnerability over withdrawal. “I live my life with full emotion—I cry, I feel, I respond. I won’t shy away from life just because it’s uncomfortable. The key is to live through the anxiety, the humiliation, the happiness—all of it.”
