Baby John Box Office Collection Day 12: Varun Dhawan’s Actioner Struggles, Declared a Flop

Despite a stellar cast and high budget, Baby John fails to impress audiences, with collections barely crossing ₹38 crore in 12 days.

January 6, 2025: Varun Dhawan’s Baby John, released on December 25, 2024, aimed to deliver an action-packed spectacle but has ended up among the biggest Bollywood flops of the year. Directed by Kalees and presented by Atlee, the film stars Keerthy Suresh and Wamiqa Gabbi as the leading ladies, with Jackie Shroff playing the primary antagonist. Adding to the star power, Salman Khan made a cameo appearance in a post-climax sequence.

Box Office Struggles

An official adaptation of Atlee’s 2016 Tamil hit Theri, Baby John has been unable to strike a chord with audiences. According to Sacnilk.com, the film collected a mere ₹90 lakh on its 12th day (January 5), taking its total India net collection to ₹38.60 crore.

Globally, the film has managed to earn close to ₹60 crore gross, which remains drastically low against its estimated ₹180 crore budget. This puts Baby John in the same league as other underperformers of 2024, such as Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha, and Maidaan.

Stiff Competition and Audience Response

The film faced stiff competition from Pushpa 2: The Rule, featuring Allu Arjun, Rashmika Mandanna, and Fahadh Faasil, which continues to dominate the box office. Additionally, Disney’s Mufasa: The Lion King has drawn family audiences, further sidelining Baby John.

Behind the Scenes

Backed by Atlee and Priya Atlee, Murad Khetani, and Jyoti Deshpande under the banners of A For Apple Studios, Cine1 Studios, and Jio Studios, the film also features a supporting cast including Rajpal Yadav, Zara Zyanna, Sheeba Chaddha, Omkar Das Manikpuri, and Jaffer Sadiq.

A Missed Opportunity

Despite its star-studded cast and high production values, Baby John has been unable to create the buzz or emotional connection needed to pull audiences to theatres. With its lackluster performance, the film joins a growing list of Bollywood box-office disappointments this year.
