‘Baby John’ Box Office Struggles: Varun Dhawan’s Film Sees Sharp Drop, Loses 2500 Showings

Varun Dhawan’s action-drama ‘Baby John’ faces a steep decline in box office collections, earning just ₹35.4 crore in its first week.

January 3, 2025: Varun Dhawan’s much-anticipated action-drama, Baby John, has failed to leave a mark at the box office, witnessing a significant drop in earnings within its first week. Released during the festive Christmas season, the film opened with a promising ₹11.25 crore but saw an alarming decline on its second day, collecting only ₹4.75 crore.

Declining Occupancy and Show Reductions

Despite an initial buzz, Baby John has seen a sharp fall in its occupancy rates. On January 1, the film recorded an average occupancy of 22.38%, with approximately 1,800 shows running across India. However, this is a steep reduction from the 4,300 shows it started with, marking a loss of 2,500 shows within just a week of release.

Comparisons with ‘Pushpa 2’

Adding to the film’s struggles, Pushpa 2: The Rule, which is in its fourth week of release, continues to dominate the box office. On its fourth Wednesday, Pushpa 2 earned ₹13.15 crore, with the Hindi version alone contributing ₹9.5 crore.

Star-Studded Cast and Budget Concerns

Directed by Kalees and presented by Atlee, Baby John features Varun Dhawan alongside Keerthy Suresh, with a special cameo appearance by Salman Khan. Despite a star-studded lineup and high production value, the film has struggled to resonate with audiences.

Varun Dhawan’s Box Office Journey

Baby John marks Varun Dhawan’s return to the big screen after his 2022 horror-comedy Bhediya, which earned ₹94.91 crore against a ₹60 crore budget. Between these releases, Varun also appeared in Bawaal, which premiered directly on Prime Video.

Varun Dhawan will next be seen in Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, and fans will be hoping for a stronger performance at the box office.
