Budget Woes: ₹160 Crore Investment Faces Uncertain Returns
December 28, 2024: Varun Dhawan’s latest action thriller ‘Baby John’ continues to face a tough battle at the box office, earning just ₹3.65 crore on its first Friday, bringing its total collection to ₹19.65 crore.
The Hindi remake of the Tamil blockbuster ‘Theri’, directed by Kalees, opened with an estimated ₹11.25 crore on its first day. However, a sharp drop of 57.8% on Day 2 saw earnings plummet to ₹4.75 crore. By Day 3, the numbers declined further, falling short of the ₹20 crore milestone.
Tough Competition in the Market:
The film faces stiff competition from ‘Pushpa 2’, which earned ₹8 crore on the same day, and Disney’s ‘Mufasa: The Lion King’, which maintained steady momentum with ₹6.6 crore.

Budget vs. Reality:
Made on a hefty budget of ₹160 crore, trade analysts predict that ‘Baby John’ might struggle to cross even ₹50 crore in lifetime earnings unless weekend collections show a sharp upward trend.
The Film’s Premise:
Directed by Kalees, ‘Baby John’ is a remake of Atlee’s Tamil hit ‘Theri’ and stars Varun Dhawan in a dual role as Inspector Satya Verma and his vigilante alter ego John. The ensemble cast includes Wamiqa Gabbi, Keerthy Suresh, and Jackie Shroff in key roles.
Weekend Expectations:
With hopes now pinned on weekend footfalls, the industry awaits to see if ‘Baby John’ can regain momentum and improve its financial trajectory.
Despite a strong star cast and an action-packed narrative, the film’s slow performance indicates a challenging road ahead.
