Director Anand Tiwari takes a plot that may seem ludicrous on the surface, but smart and riveting screenwriting keeps you hooked most of the time. Tiwari ensures the comic moments and jokes land well, the writing remains focused without veering into unnecessary tracks, and the culmination is fitting.
Vicky Kaushal is terrific, shining in emotional sequences and pulling off his character with ease. “Bad Newz” is sure to expand his fan base significantly. Triptii Dimri sparkles in her role, balancing the light and emotional portions beautifully while adding much-needed glamour to the proceedings.
Ammy Virk is winsome, with impeccable timing in comic sequences and overall credibility in his character portrayal. However, Neha Dhupia and Sheeba Chaddha are underutilized, and their potential to enhance the film’s proceedings is somewhat missed due to their limited prominence.
“Bad Newz” features three chart-topping songs – “Tauba Tauba,” “Mere Mehboob Mere Sanam,” and “Jaanam” – which add immense value to the film.
Any shortcomings? Yes, a few moments in the first half could have been sharper, and the narrative could have done without a few characters.
