BAFTA 2026: Alia Bhatt Speaks In Hindi While Presenting Award For Best Film
Bollywood star Alia Bhatt made a historic and charming debut as a presenter at the 79th British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA) held on Sunday, February 22, 2026, at London’s Royal Festival Hall.
The actress made headlines not just for her fashion, but for bringing a touch of Indian culture to the global stage by opening her presentation speech in Hindi.
Alia was invited to present the award for Best Film Not in the English Language. Upon reaching the podium, she greeted the audience with:
“Namaskar! Agla award ek aisi film ke liye hai, jo angrezi mein nahi hai.” > (Greetings! The next award is for a film that is not in English.)
She quickly added a witty follow-up for the international crowd: “Don’t reach for the subtitles just yet! I was only saying in Hindi that the next award is for a film not in the English language.” She concluded by emphasizing that while cinema speaks many languages, the “language of cinema” is one we all speak fluently.
Alia channeled old-school Hollywood glamour with a look inspired by Marilyn Monroe:
