Despite India Ban, Diljit Dosanjh’s Sardaar Ji 3 Goes Housefull in Pakistan
June 28, 2025: Amid controversy surrounding its cast and diplomatic tensions between India and Pakistan, Diljit Dosanjh’s film Sardaar Ji 3 released globally on June 27, 2025, but notably skipped a theatrical release in India. Despite the ban, the horror comedy has struck gold in Pakistan, where theatres have reported housefull shows.
Leading Pakistani multiplex Cinegold Plex shared Instagram stories showing packed cinema halls for Sardaar Ji 3. One post showed a lively audience enjoying the film, with the caption: “Sardaar Ji 3 is Housefull!” and tagged actress Hania Aamir, who stars opposite Diljit in the film.
Cinegold Plex had earlier promoted the film’s arrival on Instagram, writing:
“The wait is over… Sardaar Ji is back! Sardaar Ji 3 hits the big screen on June 27 with double the comedy, drama, and desi madness!“
The film has sparked controversy in India after it was revealed that Hania Aamir, a Pakistani actor, plays a central role. In the wake of the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) demanded that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) refuse clearance for the film. In response, the producers chose to bypass Indian theatres altogether, releasing the film internationally instead.
In an interview with BBC Asian Network, Diljit Dosanjh addressed the controversy, saying:
“When we shot the film in February, everything was normal. Later, major events beyond our control occurred. Since then, the producers decided to release the film overseas. Yes, there will be losses due to India’s absence, but I support the producers’ decision.“
Sardaar Ji 3 stars Diljit as a ghostbuster hired to exorcise a haunted UK mansion, with Hania Aamir playing a paranormal investigator. Neeru Bajwa also returns in a key role. The film blends comedy, action, and supernatural elements, staying true to the franchise’s eccentric charm.
