Benedict Cumberbatch Joins ‘Blood On Snow’ Cast, Replaces Tom Hardy

February 15, 2025: Actor Benedict Cumberbatch is set to star in the upcoming indie film Blood on Snow, based on Jo Nesbo’s crime thriller, alongside Aaron Taylor-Johnson. The film, which is being directed by Cary Fukunaga, marks a significant addition to the cast with Cumberbatch’s involvement, as he replaces Tom Hardy. Hardy, originally slated to star and produce the film, had to back out due to scheduling conflicts.

The plot of Blood on Snow follows Taylor-Johnson’s character, Olav, a hitman hired by his mob boss to assassinate the boss’s adulterous wife. However, Olav falls in love with the woman and fails to complete the hit, setting off a chain of tragic events that risk escalating into a brutal mob war. Cumberbatch plays the role of the rival mob boss, known as “The Fisherman.” Specific details about his character are being kept under wraps for now.

The film also features Eva Green, Emma Laird, and Ben Mendelsohn in key roles. Blood on Snow will begin production at the end of this month and will be filmed in Latvia.

The film is adapted from Jo Nesbo’s book, with Nesbo also co-writing the screenplay along with Ben Powers. Producers for the film include Mike Larocca, Michael Schaefer from Department M, as well as Cary Fukunaga, Nesbo, Tracey Seaward, Niclas Salomonsson, and Dean Baker.

Cumberbatch’s recent credits include the Netflix miniseries Eric and he is also part of the ensemble in Guy Ritchie’s upcoming project Wife and Dog. Green recently starred in Dirty Angels and was involved in a two-part French adaptation of The Three Musketeers.

The upcoming Blood on Snow is one to watch for thriller and crime drama fans, with a talented ensemble cast and an intriguing premise centered around betrayal, love, and mob violence.
