Benedict Cumberbatch Reveals “Horrific” Diet for Doctor Strange!

Actor Details Extreme Nutritional Demands for Marvel Role. Cumberbatch Also Criticizes Film Industry’s Environmental Waste

July 23,2025: British actor Benedict Cumberbatch, who is 49 years old and known for his transformative roles, recently talked on the Ruthie’s Table 4 podcast about how hard it was for him to get ready physically for his Marvel Cinematic Universe character, Doctor Strange. He also talked about how big of an environmental impact the entertainment industry has.

Cumberbatch said that his strict Doctor Strange routine was good for his body. “The exercise is great for me.” And at the end, you feel powerful and sure of yourself, and you carry yourself better. He said, “You have stamina from the exercise and the food that makes you last through the gig.”

But he did say that the diet he had to follow was “horrific.” “I don’t like it myself. “I think it’s terrible to eat more than you want,” he said. He said, “Again, getting back to accountability, resourcefulness, and sustainability—it’s just like, what am I doing? The amount I’m consuming could feed a whole household. He talked on what a regular Marvel diet looks like: “Five meals a day, plus a couple of boiled eggs between those meals, or a high-protein snack like cheese and crackers or almond butter and crackers. Lots of crackers.” He said that even if it was uncomfortable, it was nice to have specialized resources like a chef on site for Marvel movies.

Then the talk turned to a more critical look at how Hollywood affects the environment. Cumberbatch said, “It’s a very wasteful industry.” He talked more about different types of waste, like “set builds that aren’t recycled, think about transport, think about food, think about housing, but also light and energy—the amount of wattage you need to sort of create daylight and consistent light in a studio environment, it’s a lot of energy.”

Cumberbatch, who is also a producer, stressed how important it is to him to promote sustainable techniques. He said, “It’s a systemic thing, but as a producer, I’m really into that.” He actively pushes for “the green initiative, the green handshake into every agreement,” pushing for things like getting rid of single-use plastics and telling crew members to carry their own reusable water bottles.

Cumberbatch is presently promoting his new movie, “The Roses,” which is a remake of the 1989 movie The War of the Roses. He stars in it with Olivia Colman. On August 29, 2025, “The Roses” will be shown in theaters.
