May 19, 2025: Benedict Cumberbatch made a striking appearance at the 78th Cannes Film Festival, turning heads not just for his sharp black tuxedo but also for his unexpected accessory—a black arm sling.
Accompanied by his wife, Sophie Hunter, who stunned in an elegant off-shoulder gown, Cumberbatch walked the red carpet with effortless charm and confidence. Despite the mystery surrounding his injury, the actor maintained his signature poise and let his style speak for itself.

Cumberbatch was at Cannes for the world premiere of Wes Anderson’s latest film, The Phoenician Scheme. The screening received an enthusiastic response, with the audience delivering a 7.5-minute standing ovation, according to Deadline.
Director Wes Anderson, known for his quirky and visually distinctive films, thanked his cast during the post-screening remarks, name-dropping Benicio del Toro, Michael Cera, and Roman Coppola, among others.“The only thing I can really think to say — I think of 12 words that would stand for everything in this movie,” Anderson shared during his brief but heartfelt speech.
The Phoenician Scheme is being hailed as a return to Anderson’s signature style of offbeat family-centered storytelling, echoing the tones of Rushmore and The Royal Tenenbaums. The ensemble cast also features Rupert Friend, Mia Threapleton, Jeffrey Wright, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Antonia Desplat, and Bill Murray.
While the film’s debut created buzz for its cinematic brilliance, Cumberbatch’s stylish resilience and red carpet presence added an unexpected highlight to the evening.
