Bhool Chuk Maaf Day 1 Box Office: Rajkummar Rao’s Time Loop Comedy Opens with ₹6.75 Cr, Misses Big Opening

May 24, 2025: Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi’s much-anticipated comedy-drama Bhool Chuk Maaf opened to a decent start at the box office, collecting approximately ₹6.75 crore on its opening day, according to early estimates by industry tracker Sacnilk. Directed by Karan Sharma, the film marks another foray into high-concept storytelling for Rao, this time through a time-loop setup.

Despite facing stiff competition and a complicated release journey, Bhool Chuk Maaf managed to outperform Rajkummar Rao’s last outing Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video, which earned ₹5.5 crore on its debut day. However, it still trails significantly behind the opening day collections of Stree 2, which saw a bumper ₹51.8 crore.

Release Drama

Initially slated for a theatrical release on May 9, Bhool Chuk Maaf was pulled due to heightened security protocols nationwide following Operation Sindoor. Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films then announced a direct-to-digital release on Prime Video scheduled for May 16.

However, the abrupt change of plans led to a legal dispute with multiplex chain PVRINOX, which challenged the OTT release in court, citing prior commitments and promotional partnerships. Eventually, an agreement was reached between PVRINOX, Maddock Films, and Amazon MGM Studios, paving the way for a theatrical release on May 23.

Plot and Reception

The film follows a man, played by Rao, who finds himself stuck reliving the day before his wedding — a time loop that forces him to confront his fears, secrets, and the true meaning of love. Wamiqa Gabbi plays the bride-to-be in this quirky and emotional rollercoaster.

Early reactions from both critics and audiences have praised the film’s refreshing concept and the lead pair’s chemistry, though some felt the pacing could have been tighter. The Hindi-language film registered an average 19.36% occupancy on Friday across major cities.

Outlook

With decent word-of-mouth and a unique premise, Bhool Chuk Maaf may see an uptick in collections over the weekend. Industry experts believe the film’s performance in the next few days will determine its fate, especially in a crowded release calendar.

Bhool Chuk Maaf is produced by Maddock Films and Amazon MGM Studios, with a theatrical release now backing its digital plans. Whether it achieves cult status like Stree remains to be seen, but for now, it’s off to a promising — if complicated — start.
