Bigg Boss 18’s Hema Sharma Reveals Financial Struggles Post-Eviction, Forced to Sell Jewellery to Make Ends Meet

November 11, 2024: Life after reality TV is often glamorised, but for Bigg Boss 18 contestant Hema Sharma, the reality has been far from glamorous. The first evictee from this season, Hema recently opened up about her financial struggles, including having to sell her gold earrings, valued at ₹1.37 lakh, just to cover basic expenses like rent and electricity.

In an interview with The Free Press Journal, Hema disclosed that despite her stint on Bigg Boss, financial stability remains a distant dream. Contrary to the belief that reality TV boosts one’s career, Hema’s participation in the show did not bring the anticipated financial breakthrough. She is the sole provider for her children and is managing everything from their education to household expenses, with her monthly income barely reaching ₹50,000 to ₹60,000.

Hema shared that her estranged husband, Gaurav Saxena, has only been contributing ₹35,000 monthly for rent, with no additional financial support, leaving her struggling to make ends meet. Despite her efforts to sustain herself through social media work, the income is insufficient. She recalled the challenges she faced before joining Bigg Boss, leaving behind her ATM card and valuables for her children, fearing an emergency in her absence.

The financial hardship didn’t just impact her life outside the show; it affected her confidence inside the Bigg Boss house as well. Hema admitted feeling uncomfortable and out of place when she saw other contestants in trendy outfits while she had a limited wardrobe. With only three nightgowns and no extra funds to buy new clothes, she often borrowed from co-contestant Sara to avoid repeating outfits, which affected her morale.

Since her eviction, Hema and Gaurav have exchanged public accusations regarding their responsibilities towards their family. She alleged that Gaurav tried to leverage her newfound popularity for his gain, while he recently cut off the ₹35,000 monthly allowance he had been providing, adding further to her financial woes.

Reflecting on the extent of her struggles, Hema said, “I had to sell my earrings just to cover basic expenses. It’s disheartening to realize that even those close to me had no idea about the challenges I faced, and I’m only speaking about it now to raise awareness.”

Hema’s story reveals the harsh reality that can follow fame, offering a glimpse into the unexpected and often unspoken struggles faced by reality TV stars once the spotlight fades.
