July 17, 2025: Legendary musician Billy Joel takes center stage in Billy Joel: And So It Goes, a new two-part documentary premiering on HBO. Part One debuts on July 18, with Part Two arriving July 25. The documentary explores Joel’s five-decade career, weaving together personal moments, archival footage, and commentary from fellow artists.

The HBO Original offers an intimate look at the man behind classics like “Piano Man” and “Uptown Girl.” In the trailer, Joel reflects, “Everything I’ve done, and everything I’ve lived through, has somehow found its way into my music.” The film features never-before-seen videos of Joel writing music, performing live, and spending time with his band. Interviews include music icons like Paul McCartney, who recalls being struck by Joel’s talent the first time he heard him.

Fans can stream the documentary by signing up for a Sling + HBO Max bundle, which offers 50% off the first month and a $5 monthly discount thereafter. Plans start at $57.97 for Sling Blue with HBO Max.

Coinciding with the release, Joel is set to drop his Greatest Hits Volume I & II compilation on vinyl this August. The collection includes beloved songs like “New York State of Mind,” “She’s Always a Woman,” and “Goodnight Saigon.”

Joel recently concluded his record-breaking Madison Square Garden residency and reminisced about other milestones—from performing in Berlin after the Wall came down to being the first American act in the Soviet Union.

In May 2024, Joel announced the cancellation of his tour due to a diagnosis of normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH), a brain disorder. “I’m sincerely sorry to disappoint our audience,” he said. “Thank you for understanding.”
