Bipasha Basu Gains Weight, Gets Body-Shamed, Responds: ‘Memes Do Not Define Me’

Actor Bipasha Basu responds powerfully to fat-shaming trolls targeting her postpartum weight gain, calling out society’s disturbing attitude towards women’s bodies.

June 14, 2025: Actor Bipasha Basu has spoken out against online trolls who fat-shamed her for her postpartum weight gain, asserting that memes and mockery cannot define her worth or identity. The Raaz actor took to Instagram to thank those defending her and to call out the “deeply disturbing” societal mindset that targets women after childbirth.

Basu, who is married to actor Karan Singh Grover and became a mother in November 2022, was recently the subject of a viral meme comparing her earlier and current photos — aimed at shaming her post-pregnancy transformation. A reel featuring these visuals set to the song Night Changes sparked widespread discussion online, prompting a former Miss India and influencer Shweta Vijay Nair to condemn the unrealistic beauty expectations forced upon mothers.

Bipasha responded directly in the comments section:

“Thank you for your clear words… Hope the human race does not remain so shallow and so low forever… and they encourage and applaud women for the million roles they play each day.”

She added:

“I am a super confident woman with a very evolved, loving partner and family. Memes and trolls do not define me ever… nor did they make me who I am. But these are deeply disturbing reflections of the society towards women. Another woman in my place could be deeply affected and scarred by such viciousness.”

Ending on an empowering note, Bipasha said:

“If we have more strong voices and at least women understanding and applauding women for who they are, then women will rise higher and higher 🙂 We are unstoppable ladies.”

Her husband, Karan Singh Grover, also showed his support:

“We should be putting all the women we know and love on a pedestal and praying to them… I believe that god/source is a feminine energy. Nothing else could have created something as beautiful as life.”
