“Bohot Ghutan Si Thi”: Samay Raina Reflects on Hiatus, Raises Toast With Apoorva Mukhija After Legal Row

May 15, 2025: After months of silence and controversy, comedian Samay Raina has returned to social media and announced a major international comedy tour, marking a significant personal and professional comeback.

The 27-year-old, best known for his YouTube show India’s Got Latent, had been off Instagram since February 2025, following an FIR filed against him and others over allegedly vulgar content in one of the show’s episodes. The incident led to police summons and intense online scrutiny, pushing the comedian into a self-imposed digital exile.

Comeback With Candour

On May 14, Raina made his return with a reel and a flood of Instagram Stories offering glimpses of his life in the past few months. From casual hangouts with close friends like Gursimran Khamba and Tanmay Bhat, to emotional family moments and gym sessions, the Stories painted a picture of quiet resilience.

Among the posts was a candid photo with fellow creator Apoorva Mukhija (The Rebel Kid)—who was also named in the FIR—raising a toast, signaling solidarity in the face of adversity.

“Bohot ghutan si thi yaar… kaafi nikaal diya ek saath hi,” Raina wrote.
(“I had been feeling suffocated… finally let a lot of it out at once.”)

He followed up with a heartfelt note to his fans:

“I love you all. I’m so happy to be experiencing all this love. I can’t wait to see you guys in my shows abroad and in India. I’m so grateful to all of you.”

Going Global: Comedy Tour Announcement

In the same post, Raina revealed that he will be embarking on a world tour starting June 5, with shows planned across Europe, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand. The announcement was met with enthusiasm from fans, many of whom have rallied around him since his hiatus.

Navigating Comedy in Today’s India

Raina’s return highlights the increasing tension between comedy, expression, and legal boundaries in India. In recent years, several comedians have faced FIRs, censorship, and public backlash, sparking debates about the limits of satire in a politically sensitive landscape.

As one of the faces of India’s digital comedy revolution, Raina’s comeback is not just about a tour—it’s a statement about resilience, accountability, and the power of audience support.
