Bollywood Celebs Extend Wishes On Gandhi Jayanti
On the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi’s 155th birth anniversary, several members of the film industry and prominent political figures paid tribute to the leader, celebrating his enduring legacy of non-violence, truth, and equality.
Actor Sanjay Dutt shared a memorable still from his film Lage Raho Munna Bhai, a movie that popularized the concept of “Gandhigiri” — a humorous, yet insightful portrayal of Gandhi’s principles.
Dutt reflected, “Celebrating the spirit of Bapu’s wisdom, non-violence and Gandhigiri on this Gandhi Jayanti.” The film, directed by Rajkumar Hirani, brought Gandhian values back into mainstream discussions, blending humor with social messages.
Actor Kriti Kharbanda also posted on Instagram, extending her wishes with the hashtags #HappyBirthdayBapu and #GandhiJayanti, highlighting the day’s significance.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat in New Delhi.
In his tribute on X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi emphasized Gandhi’s lasting influence on truth, harmony, and equality, stating that these ideals continue to inspire the nation.
The Prime Minister also paid tribute to former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on his birth anniversary, recognizing his contributions to India’s soldiers, farmers, and national pride.
Gandhi Jayanti, a national holiday, is celebrated annually on October 2 to honor the “Father of the Nation,” born in Porbandar, Gujarat, in 1869. Mahatma Gandhi’s non-violent resistance was central to India’s freedom struggle against British colonial rule, leading to the country’s independence in 1947. His principles of non-violence (Ahimsa) and Satyagraha continue to resonate across the world, as October 2 is also observed as the International Day of Non-Violence.
