Bollywood Stars Urge Public To Avoid Fake News Amid India-Pakistan Tensions

May 09, 2025: As tensions escalate between India and Pakistan following the recent Pahalgam terrorist attack and subsequent Operation Sindoor, Bollywood celebrities are urging the public to stay calm, avoid misinformation, and rely on verified sources.

Actor Varun Dhawan took to Instagram Stories with a simple but powerful message:
“Let’s spread correct information only.”

Actress Parineeti Chopra echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the dangers of misinformation during sensitive times.
“The worst we can do right now is spread fake news and terrify the people who are watching. Let’s rely on official updates and nothing else. Report responsibly,” she posted on her Instagram Story.

Meanwhile, actress Sonakshi Sinha criticized media outlets for sensationalizing the situation, calling out their dramatization of the India-Pakistan conflict.
“Our news channels are a joke! I’m so done with these over-dramatised visuals and sound effects, the screaming and shouting! What are you’ll doing? Just do your job, report facts as they are. Stop sensationalising WAR and creating panic in people who are anyway anxious, for God’s sake,” she wrote.

These reactions come in the aftermath of Operation Sindoor, India’s military retaliation targeting nine terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), launched in response to the brutal Pahalgam attack.

On the intervening night of May 8-9, the Indian Army successfully repelled multiple drone and munition-based attacks launched by Pakistan along the Western Border and the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir. Numerous ceasefire violations (CFVs) were also reported.

“The drone attacks were effectively repulsed and a befitting reply was given,” stated the Indian Army. “We remain committed to safeguarding the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Nation. All nefarious designs will be responded to with force.”

According to defence officials, the Akash surface-to-air missile system, developed indigenously, played a critical role in neutralizing Pakistani drone threats. Both the Indian Army and Air Force have deployed the system along the border to bolster air defence capabilities.
