May 11, 2025: The Bombay High Court on Saturday granted an ad-interim injunction against Maddock Films, preventing it from releasing Bhool Chuk Maaf on OTT before fulfilling its 8-week theatrical window agreement with PVR Inox.

The legal action came after PVR Inox filed a petition objecting to Maddock Films’ sudden decision to skip the theatrical release and instead debut the film on Amazon Prime Video on May 16—just one day before its originally scheduled cinema release on May 9. The court found merit in the petition, noting a breach of the contract signed between the two parties on May 6, 2025.

The agreement clearly stipulated that Bhool Chuk Maaf was to complete an 8-week exclusive run in theatres before being made available for digital streaming.

“In light of recent events and the heightened security drills across the nation, we at Maddock Films and Amazon MGM Studios have decided to bring our family entertainer, Bhool Chuk Maaf, directly to your homes on May 16—only on Prime Video, worldwide,” the production house had earlier said in a social media statement.

The announcement sparked immediate backlash from PVR Inox, which argued in court that the last-minute decision not only violated contractual terms but also disrupted scheduling and marketing efforts put in place for the theatrical release.

Directed by Karan Sharma, Bhool Chuk Maaf stars Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi in their first on-screen collaboration. The court has scheduled the next hearing for June 16.

With the injunction in place, the film’s digital release remains in limbo until further legal proceedings.
