Hamare Baarah
Just days before its scheduled release, the Bombay High Court has imposed a stay on the premiere of Annu Kapoor’s ‘Hamare Baarah’ until June 14, leaving the film’s makers in a state of deep distress. The film was slated to hit the screens on June 7.
‘Hamare Baarah’ has been generating buzz for its bold take on the issue of overpopulation, a theme seldom explored in Indian cinema. Starring Annu Kapoor, Manoj Joshi, and Paritosh Tripathi, the film’s bold narrative and thought-provoking themes have captured the public’s attention.
Despite receiving a censor certificate, the film’s release has been halted due to a legal challenge. Birender Bhagat, one of the producers, expressed shock and disappointment, stating, “We have invested crores of our hard-earned money in making the film, risked our entire life’s savings, and made this film with great difficulty.”
The stay was imposed following a petition filed by activists from a specific religious community, raising objections to the film’s content. The producers have met with Maharashtra CM Shri Eknath Shinde to express gratitude for the safety and police protection provided during the release week, but uncertainty looms over the film’s premiere.
Jointly produced by Birender Bhagat, Ravi S Gupta, Sanjay Nagpal, and Sheo Balak Singh, and directed by Kamal Chandra, ‘Hamare Baarah’ features a screenplay by Rajan Agarwal.
